Peking University Study Group Visits KCBD BIOTECH: Exploring the Science and Social Value of Cannabidiol

Jun 26,2026

Recently, a study group from Peking University visited the KCBD BIOTECH facility to tour its modern cannabidiol (CBD) production line. Mr. Yu, the company’s executive director, personally welcomed the visiting faculty and students, delivering an accessible and insightful science presentation on CBD’s manufacturing process, societal significance, and functional applications.

Inside the Workshop: Green Extraction Powered by Technology
In a 100,000-class GMP cleanroom, participants observed firsthand the complete production process—from industrial hemp flowers and leaves to high-purity CBD crystals. Mr. Yu explained that the company employs advanced techniques such as countercurrent extraction, low-temperature dewaxing, simulated moving bed chromatography, and molecular distillation, enabling large-scale production with CBD purity consistently above 99%. From drying and grinding to extraction and purification, each step reflects the precision and rigor of modern biotechnology.

Value Beyond the Field: An Industry Mission from Farm to Global Market
Mr. Yu highlighted the unique importance of the industrial hemp industry. Industrial hemp refers to legal cannabis varieties containing less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), rendering them non-intoxicating and unsuitable for recreational use. Although China is the world’s largest producer of industrial hemp—accounting for about 50% of global output—the majority of production remains raw material exports, leaving significant room for value-added development. Mr. Yu emphasized that the company is committed to advancing extraction technologies and R&D capabilities to secure a more central role for "Made in China" within the global CBD supply chain.

Scientific Understanding: CBD’s Multifaceted Health Potential
Regarding CBD’s functions, Mr. Yu noted that it is a naturally occurring, non-toxic, non-psychoactive cannabinoid, fundamentally different from THC. Research indicates that CBD exhibits broad pharmacological activity, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and neuroprotective effects. Oral CBD has already been approved for treating certain rare forms of epilepsy, while ongoing interest continues in its potential for managing anxiety and improving sleep quality.

This educational visit provided Peking University students with a scientific and comprehensive understanding of the industrial hemp sector. Within the framework of legality and compliance, technological innovation is redefining the social value of this ancient plant.
